We counter the one-sided economization of the digital medium with a creative, research-based debate. Who should be better positioned in the social discourse than art universities to provide such food for thought?
In order to establish digital innovation as a vehicle for artistic invention, we strengthen the digital skills of our students. In the sense of "coding literacy", the possibilities and limits of algorithmic thinking are to be tested through the practical implementation of artistic ideas; for example in the seminar "Code as Music - Music as Code" or in an exploration of the topic of "Electronic Dance Music" planned with the departments of Dance and Musicology.
Another focus is on enabling digital participation in a diverse society. Younger musicians in particular are already almost always making music "digitally" in some form. They should also be picked up where their musical interests lie beyond traditional instrumental pedagogy, for example as part of our "Beats Programming" workshop at this year's Girls' Future Day.
The aim of digital sustainability is to demonstrate that the creative use of digital media in particular can be decoupled from inflationary technology consumption, for example through the use of free/libre open source software.
The overarching goal of these efforts should ultimately be the pursuit of a digital autonomy that is not purely technological, but above all artistic and humanistic.
